Liturgical Hints & Ideas:
The feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord offers us a glimpse of heavenly glory.
Our music should reinforce this theme.
Consider a trumpet, or bells, or violin.
Perhaps a more festive Gloria can lift this hymn above its "simple" summer mode.
During summer Ordinary Time we will review fundamentals of liturgy, information that every church musician should know.
The congregation also will benefit from a deeper knowledge of these liturgical principles.
Parishes have permission to duplicate in church bulletins the material in these "Liturgical Hints & Ideas" sections.
The Mass: Liturgy of the Eucharist
The Liturgy of the Eucharist contains three major actions: the Preparation of the Gifts, the Eucharistic Prayer and the Communion Rite.
The Preparation of the Gifts begins as the chalice, corporal, purificator and missal are placed on the altar.
Accompanied by music, the gifts of bread and wine to be used at Mass are brought to the altar.
Also during this time, money is collected for the poor and for the Church.
The gifts and the altar may be incensed as a symbol of the Church's offering and prayer rising to God.
