Required Resources: cantor/choir, congregation, organ
Language: English (with Greek Kyrie)
Composer B. Andrew Mills has given us a simple and elegant Mass setting in chant-style.
While the non-metered format and flowing melodies are reminiscent of chant, the Mass is not modal at all – definitely F major.
In Greek (Kyrie) and English, the Mass is set in unison throughout, accompanied by unobtrusive organ chords.
It can be sung by choir or congregation, although the Kyrie is set in the standard form with each of the three invocations repeated (so a cantor could be used here).
This concise, yet complete Mass setting includes a Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Memorial Acclamation, Amen and Agnus Dei.
B. Andrew Mills is Organist and Choirmaster at the Church of Saint Agnes, at Grand Central Station in New York City, where he plays a 1998 Mander organ and conducts a professional choir for the weekly Latin Tridentine High Mass.
For eight years he was Organist and Choirmaster at Saint Peter's Church on Capitol Hill in Washington DC.
