Liturgical Hints & Ideas:
The plan of God's mercy begins to unfold as Mary is conceived free from the stain of original sin.
She will come to accept the invitation of God to become the mother of his Son.
As a privilege of her faith-filled response to Gabriel's message, she shared beforehand in the grace won by Christ through his suffering, death and resurrection.
Mary is the "New Eve" who is "Mother of the Church."
The year 2004 marked the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception by Pope Pius IX on December 8, 1854:
The Blessed Virgin Mary in the first instance of her conception, by a singular privilege and grace granted by God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the human race, was preserved exempt from all stain of original sin.
