Liturgical Hints & Ideas:
If Eucharistic Adoration occurred during the day, and the period of exposition is to be closed at Mass, this order should be followed, according to the Order for the Solemn Exposition of the Holy Eucharist (USCC 1992)
  • The Eucharist is placed in the tabernacle before Mass begins.
  • Exposition: Immediately after the distribution of communion, the monstrance is placed on the altar. The deacon (or priest) places the host in the monstrance. All should be kneeling.
  • The celebrant stands and says the Prayer after Communion. The concluding rites of the Mass are omitted.
  • The celebrant incenses the Eucharist while a song is sung.
  • The celebrant in white cope or Mass vestments, wearing a humeral veil, may carry the monstrance in procession. Songs should be sung during the procession.
  • After the procession the monstrance is returned to the altar.
  • The celebrant prays one of the prayers for Benediction.
  • Wearing the humeral veil, the celebrant genuflects and blesses the people with the host in the monstrance.
  • The deacon (or priest) removes the host from the monstrance and places it in the tabernacle. Another song may be sung or instrumental music may accompany the ministers from the altar to the sacristy.
