Liturgical Hints & Ideas:
During summer Ordinary Time, when many weddings occur, we will review the musical elements of the marriage ceremony.
Engaged couples and the congregation also will benefit from a deeper understanding of these principles.
Parishes have permission to duplicate for their use the material in these "Liturgical Hints & Ideas" sections.
The Marriage Ceremony: Eucharistic Acclamations
The three Eucharistic Acclamations (Sanctus, Memorial Acclamation, Amen) should be sung by the congregation.
Musical settings can alternate between cantor/choir and congregation to facilitate the participation of the assembled guests, many of whom may not be familiar with a through-composed setting.
A warning expressed earlier may well be repeated here:
Although it is desirable that the Eucharistic Acclamations be highlighted with congregational singing, if a weak response, or no response at all, is to be anticipated from the particular guests assembled, it is much better to have these spoken, avoiding uncomfortable embarrassing moments.
Suggestions:
- "A Community Mass" (Richard Proulx)
- "Danish Amen Mass" (David Kraehenbuhl)
- "Festival Eucharistl" (Richard Proulx)
- "Missa sanctorum angelorum" (Calvert Shenk) CNP Catalog #3120
- "People's Mass" (Jan Vermulst)
