Liturgical Hints & Ideas
During the Easter Season the Church extends the joy and gladness of Easter day throughout several weeks. The Solemnity of Easter itself (and in particular the Great Easter Vigil) is the highpoint of the liturgical year. Since the celebration of the Easter feast is of such pre-eminence, the Church extends that celebration for seven days, called Easter Week. Each day of Easter Week is a solemnity of high rank, and rituals peculiar to Easter (like the double "Alleluia" sung at the dismissal) are continued each day during Easter Week. The importance of the "Week of Easters" is such that the Church multiplies it seven times, creating a season of joy and festivity. Thus the Easter Season is highly symbolic in length, a season of 7 times 7 days, culminating in the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost (pente meaning "fiftieth").
