Highlights
- a cappella choir/congregation setting for use on Good Friday
- Suitable for even the smallest choir
- Very effective as music during Veneration of the Cross
Description
The Reproaches can be sung during the Veneration of the Cross in the
liturgy for Good Friday. They embody a touching lament, placed
in the mouth of the Savior himself, recounting the great deeds God has done
for us, and how each was repudiated by our sins: "I gave you saving water
from the rock, but you gave me gall and vinegar to drink."
This setting is for SATB choir and congregation (a cappella), and is meant
for use on Good Friday when the organ should be silent. The piece is unison,
except for a refrain which is set in simple SATB harmony.
A congregational refrain is included for copying onto a liturgy sheet or
worship aid.
