This setting of the Gloria is an ideal example of CanticaNOVA Publications' goal of bringing to life the musical and liturgical treasures of the Roman Rite -
of publishing "Traditional Music for the Contemporary Church."
Many remember with fondness the beautiful Gregorian chant Missa de angelis.
Richard Clark, Director of Music and Organist at Saint Cecilia Parish in Boston, has set the familiar opening phrase,
"Gloria in excelsis Deo, et in terra pax hominibus bonæ voluntatis," as a congregational refrain in its original Latin. The remainder of the text occurs in three verse sung by cantor in English.
Mr. Clark is an organist who has performed in Boston and in Europe.
He was a prize winner in the Boston Chapter American Guild of Organists Competition for Young Artists.
His skill as an organ composer is evident in Gloria of the Angels -
its accompaniment is innovative while remaining faithful to the chant melody.
